TRAVEL BASEBALL PROGRAM
The Addison Travelers are the traveling baseball
teams of the Addison Recreation Club. This program is geared towards
players who are seeking a higher level of competition and who are willing to
make a substantial commitment to playing baseball.
Players are selected based on a variety of factors
including, but not limited to, level of performance, attitude, and travel
managers prerogative. Tryouts are a major factor in the selection process and
tryouts are conducted on a year round basis. The in-town league is a
tryout for the travel team. Also, tryouts for next year's travel teams are
based, in part, on the performance and attitude of this year's travelers during
travel games and travel team practice, and further, based on the in-town players
performance and attitude during their in town league games and practice.
Ultimately, players are invited to play on the team and the best way to assure a
place on the team is to display a high skill level and good attitude during the
in-house season from start to finish. Disrespecting coaches or
insubordination or causing dissention on the team are frowned upon and may lead
to suspension or dismissal from a team. The travel teams can be selected
as early as May 1.
The goal of the Addison Recreation Club's Travel
Baseball Program is to provide opportunities for the more competitive
ballplayer. Our travel program strives to provide a higher level of coaching and
training that will assist in the development of a more skilled ballplayer.
The travelers play an aggressive schedule which can
be approximately 15-30 travel games in addition to the 15-17 in-town games,
depending on the age of the player. These players may play 50 games per
year. The travel team will compete against "all star" teams, "full-time"
travel teams, and "part-time" travel teams from nearby towns and some
out-of-state teams.
Most of the games are played in July, after the
in-town league is finished. However, additional tournaments in April, May
and June may be played as well.
There is a registration fee charged to each player
to help cover the costs associated with this program. We are proud of the fact
that we can keep our registration costs minimal due to the volunteer
participation of parents and family members. Parents play a crucial role
by supporting their children in sports and working in harmony with the coaches
and the program parameters.
Sponsors also play a very important role in
financially assisting our travel program.
